Canadian man arrested for child porn

A Canadian man arrested in Toronto last week has been charged with criminal production and possession of child pornography, police say.

Paul Karpidis, 38, was arrested Friday, as Toronto police executed a search warrant at a home on Jalon Way. Police allege that some of the images he allegedly produced contained the sexual abuse of a child under the age of 10.

“Offenders only need a camera or a cell phone to capture images that will haunt their victims for the rest of their lives,” Toronto Police Detective Rod Fredericks said in a statement.

He also called online voyeurism “the fastest growing area of the criminal justice system.”

Prosecutors say Karpidis was staying with family members at the time of his arrest. Police have not released details about his parents.

The investigations into Karpidis are expected to continue, the Toronto Police Service said in a statement. Anyone with information is asked to contact investigators at 416-808-7400, Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477) or online at www.222tips.com.

Karpidis was scheduled to appear in a Toronto court on Tuesday.
